Mohammad Shahjahan, a Public Health professional and World Health Organization (WHO) retiree has worked with WHO for about 20 years in several countries in Southern Africa, Middle-East and South-east Asia with various capacities. Dr Shahjahan’s areas of work with WHO covered both technical and management functions like, sub-regional nutrition officer for southern-Africa based in Zimbabwe, WHO Nutrition officer to provide technical support to Palestine Ministry of Health, Head of Health Systems team in Indonesia and Head of Reproductive Maternal Neonatal Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) team in Myanmar. As Public Health Administrator for WHO Myanmar, he led Country Programme Planning, Monitoring and Donor coordination functions for over five years. He also worked for UNICEF-Uganda as an International Consultant for “Nutrition in Emergencies” for few months. Before joining WHO international positions, Dr Shahjahan worked with several international NGOs in Bangladesh. He acted as technical advisor of MI-Tuft University project on Nutrition, HKI Dhaka; led Bangladesh country program for the Micronutrient Initiative (MI), a Canadian organization; Interim Medical Director and Program Coordinator of Children’s Nutrition Unit- a centre and urban community-based Mother and Child Health and Nutrition project of Save the Children Fund (UK) in Dhaka Bangladesh. By education, he is a medical graduate from Bangladesh, got his MSc in Mother and Child Health (MCH) from London University and a diploma certificate course on “Nutrition Program Monitoring and Evaluation” from Tufts University, USA.
